Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, more commonly known by its acronym CEREC, is used in dentistry to provide same-day dental restorations. Our office is equipped with CEREC technology to bring you high quality, durable metal-free ceramic restorations that look and feel natural in just one visit.
The process for getting a same-day crown or restoration is relatively simple. Since it’s done in only one visit, it’s convenient, too. First, we use a special 3D camera to take a digital photo of the tooth to be restored. A custom restoration will be designed using CEREC software in combination with the digital photo of your tooth, which will fit perfectly and restore functionality to your smile. After your restoration is designed, a milling machine, complete with diamond cutters, will carve your restoration out of a block of ceramic. When complete, the ceramic is permanently bonded to your tooth.
Benefits of CEREC
CEREC restorations save you time and effort because they are completed in a single appointment. This is compared to traditional crown restorations that require the placement of a temporary crown, while the permanent restoration is made in a dental lab. Because CEREC crowns eliminate the need of a temporary crown, there’s less discomfort from an ill-fitting stand-in. Also, milled ceramic is typically more durable than traditional pressed and layered methods. This means your restoration will last for years.
CEREC technology isn’t just used for same-day crowns. Other ceramic restorations, such as inlays and onlays, will also be made in a single day as well. This leads to more durable fillings than traditional composite resin. Ask us if CEREC technology can be used for your restoration, to effectively and efficiently restore your beautiful smile.
