Losing teeth can cause serious complications. Tooth loss can compromise your ability to chew food, speak clearly, smile confidently and even result in alignment issues in your bite pattern. Quite often dental implants will be recommend to restore the missing teeth with a bridge.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. They are better than other alternatives like bridges or partial dentures because no additional teeth need to be altered to place the new tooth, and the stability of the teeth is greatly enhanced. Dental implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, a series of missing teeth, or to anchor a full set of new teeth.
The Dental Implant Process
The entire dental implant process is performed over the course of a few months. The first part of the process is to install the dental implant itself. This is done by an oral surgeon who we have carefully selected for your particular care. Multiple dental implants can be placed at once if necessary. The entire process is much easier than it may sound. The dental implant is one of the greatest revolutions in dentistry, changing the way we approach the problem of missing teeth. It is rapidly becoming one of the more common procedures in our office.
Dental implants require about 3-6 months to heal, and during this time the jaw bone will form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. During this healing time you can have temporary crowns installed so that you can eat and speak normally and maintain a proper aesthetic appearance for your smile.
After the implant has healed it is time to place an abutment on the implant. The abutment serves as the base for your new tooth. Once this is placed an impression of the abutment is taken and is used to create your permanent restoration. Using our CEREC System, we are then able to create your new teeth quickly and accurately in our own office and fit these to the dental implants. Your smile will look just like it used to, and after a short period of getting used to the implant it will feel just like one of your own teeth. So don’t let Losing teeth can cause serious complications.
