What is CEREC?
CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Translated, it means that a dentist can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of other teeth. So it’s east to have a A New Dental Crown in 1 Appointment!
Why CEREC?
- Protects and preserves your own tooth’s structural integrity.
- Only one appointment.
- Perfect looks and quality
- Long lasting and durable Ceramic Porcelain
How Does It work?
Dr. Donnie Dean examines the tooth and determines the appropriate treatment. It could be a simple filling, or a full crown or onlay depending on how much healthy tooth structure is remaining The tooth is prepared for the restoration. This preparation is just like we would do for many other restorative techniques.
Optical Image: We Use The Advanced Technology of Primescan
CEREC Primescan is an alternative to traditional intraoral dental impressions, which use a putty-like substance to take physical impressions of your teeth. This method does not allow for digital assessment of your mouth, and some patients find it the process of physical impressions to be uncomfortable.
CEREC Primescan uses a wand-like device, loaded with powerful imaging sensors which can capture more than 50,000 images of your mouth per second. These images are quickly stitched and compiled into a 3D image of your teeth, jaw, gums and mouth, and displayed on a high-definition screen for immediate assessment by our doctors.
Using this sensor, our doctors can image your entire mouth up to 20mm in depth, including gums, blood, and bone structures, quickly and accurately. The Primescan software (as compared to the Omnicam) creates high-resolution 3D models to assess your oral health and create the very best crowns, implants, removable prosthesis, restorations, and even 3D prints. With just a few quick sweeps of the CEREC Primescan device, we’ll be able to generate an in-depth, modifiable 3D image of your mouth in minutes. Instead of filling a tray with impression “goop” that hardens, a camera is used to take a digital picture of your tooth. This whole picture process only takes a few minutes.
Next, the CEREC machine helps create the restoration for your tooth. The CEREC 3D software takes the digital picture and converts it into a 3-dimensional virtual model on the computer screen. The design of the restoration is done using the CEREC 3D computer program. Within a few minutes Dr. Dean clicks a button, and the restoration design data is sent to a separate milling machine in the office. A ceramic block that matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling machine. About 10 – 20 minutes later, your all-ceramic, tooth-colored restoration is finished and ready to bond in place. Your tooth is restored with no “temporary” or return trip necessary. All of this is done in a single appointment!
