CEREC TREATMENT: WHAT TO EXPECT

Because CEREC treatments are chair-side, Dr. Donnie Dean has the ability to perform every step of the process from taking impressions digitally to designing and even milling the physical crown all during your single appointment.

First, they will use the “Omnicam” intraoral camera to take a scan of your bite in order to take digital impressions. This is a non-invasive way to take impressions unlike the traditional powder impressions most dentists use. Using the images, the doctor creates precise 3D images of your mouth to help plan production of the restoration.

The 3D images are then set into the CEREC computer software to design a 3D model of your crown. Like a graphic designer Dr. Dean uses the CERECs systems CAD/CAM software to design your custom crown.

When Dr Dean perfects the crown model, the CEREC MC XL machine mills the final piece out of high-quality ceramic material. Dr. Dean color-matches the crown to your existing teeth so that it blends in seamlessly with your smile. Finally, the final touches are made (such as polishing) to the crown, and places it over your damaged tooth. It is then bonded securely to the tooth with dental cement.

HOW LONG DO CEREC DENTAL CROWNS LAST?

CEREC crowns are designed to last many years. With the proper dental care like brushing, flossing, and yearly dental visits, studies have shown success rates of  at least 18 years!
